Authors analyzed the comparison between contrast enhancement on CT and angiographic findings of 24 pathologically proven posterior fossa tumors that were studied in Chonnam University Hospital from June 1983 to July 1986.
The results are as follows;
1. Pathologic diagnosis of 24 cases of posterior fossa tumor; acoustic neurinoma in 8 cases, meningioma, astrocytoma, medulloblastoma in 4 cases respectively, hemangioma, choroid plexus papilloma, ependymona and glioblastoma multiforme in 1 case respectively.
2. The computed topographic scan of all the cases shows contrast enhancement.
3. Angiogram shows abnormal vascularity in 10 cases; computed topographic scan show strong enhancement in 8 cases and slight enhancement in 2 cases.
4. Among the 16 cases of strong enhancement on computed topographic scan, 8 cases show no abnormal vascularity; 7 cases of acoustic neurinoma and 1 case of astrocytoma.
5. According to above mentioned comparison between contrast enhancement on CT and vascularity on angiogram; angiography appears to be diagnostically valuable for cases with strong enhancement on computed topography except acoustic neurinoma.
